In March 2019, I completed the three-day Tora Coastal walk situated in around the South Wairarapa region. On the second day I ventured out early to walk around the coast, while the sun was still rising. During this walk I encountered a few sea birds, including grey herons, cormorants and this little fella sitting on an old fence post.
To me, the Kotare are one of the all-rounders of the bird world, feeling right at home between the forests, farms, rivers and oceans.
